Relax & Enjoy Our Dream Wedding In Malta
Our gorgeous couple Hayley & Darren Sykes from Manchester married at Malta’s picturesque Phoenicia Hotel in Malta. The ceremony took place in the hotel’s exquisite gardens in a pretty Gazebo overlooking the Grand Harbour with the Mediterranean glowing beyond. The couple shared their special day with 62 guests who travelled to Malta, Hayley said that this was “Another one of the reasons we chose Malta was the fact there was such good access & that there were low-cost airlines, so that guests could easily come and make it a long weekend trip, although as it turned out, most of them decided to turn it into a holiday and stayed at least a week. We flew out from Manchester with my wedding dress in a box as carry-on luggage and there was no worry at all. I kept it with me throughout the flight and the airline staff were really helpful.”
So why choose Malta to get married? – “We chose Malta because we wanted something a bit different. We didn’t want a beach wedding that could be anywhere really and Malta offers something totally unique, with an opportunity for incredibly scenic pictures. When we saw the Phoenicia, we knew it was exactly what we wanted – the gardens, the harbour & the bastions of Valletta behind us, it was just so romantic and so different.”
A helping hand planning your day – “Our wedding co-ordinator was always there if needed but never obtrusive, & throughout the event the service was polite but discreet. We were really pleased. The whole event was just perfect.” The package included full wedding co-ordinator service with preparation of all documents & fees, sparkling wine with canapés, three-course meal with wine, dressed seating, flowers, wedding cake, bouquets for the bride and bridesmaid, photographer, bridal make-up, personalised menu cards, classical pianist, DJ & more.
Hayley found it all so easy – “The fact that English is one of the national languages was a huge help and there was no difficulty with the formalities. We sorted the documentation over here & simply posted it back, then when we arrived on the island, the Phoenicia had arranged a chauffeur to take us to the town hall to complete the paperwork. Also, it’s great that you don’t have to do anything else when you get home, since it’s legal in this country too.”
Make it special for your guests too -“Most of the guests hadn’t been to Malta before and they enjoyed exploring the island which was lovely. Many of them took boat trips, discovered the beaches and visited the sister islands of Gozo & Comino. Everyone totally fell in love with it.
Sunshine all the way – “The weather was fantastic too. Our ceremony took place in the late afternoon, with lovely sunshine for the pictures, followed by a barbecue dinner in the gardens afterwards. We had a plated starter which was a Mediterranean pasta dish and then for the main course there was a choice of meat or fish, with plenty fresh vegetables. We knew that the Phoenicia had a fantastic reputation for its cuisine and it definitely lived up to expectation.
It all sounds so simple – “Overall it was amazing value, and just so easy, which meant I could really enjoy the day. The only things we had to arrange were the outfits, the rings & the favours. Everything else was taken care of and that was one of the deciding factors for us in terms of what the Phoenicia offered. They took care of all the arrangements but kept me totally informed and involved in the details, so I didn’t have to worry about anything whilst still ensuring it was exactly what Darren & I wanted.”
A wedding & honeymoon all rolled into one, we like that idea – “We stayed in Malta for our honeymoon for another week after the wedding & enjoyed some memorable trips to different places. If I was giving advice to other couples considering Malta for their wedding I’d highly recommend it. It’s really different and offers something so special and romantic. For us it will always hold some magical memories.”
